I have been interested in art since childhood,. My love for mosaics grew originally working with stained glass. I began to feel all the broken pieces of a mosaic make up a lovely picture, as do the pieces of our lives make up who we are.
I have taken workshops and classes at the Chicago Mosaic School and have taken classes from mosaic artists such as Kelly Knickerbocker, Sharra Frank, Carol Shelkin, Bonnie Fitzgerald, Kory Dollar and Yulia Hanansen.
I create Mosaics using stained glass, vitreous tile, smalti and millefiori. What is a smalti you say? What is a millefiori?
Smalti is the opaque glass used in Byzantine mosaics. It is made by mixing glass and minerals and melting the mixture in a furnace.
Millefiori translates to "a thousand flowers." It is glass rods made from combined rods and when you cut off small pieces, there is a pattern like a flower or a geometric pattern.
